Eternal Flow of Time
Tested & Perfected For Africa
The new generation Quon is the result of years of meticulous research and development across the world. Tailor-made for African road and operating conditions, the models launched locally are the culmination of extensive customer feedback and local engineering trials. Focus areas included driveability, the transmission systems and overall economy, and after thousands of kilometres of testing, UD Trucks believes the new Quon range also adheres to stringent local requirements.

UD’s heavy-duty cabin blends contemporary design with functionality that improves driver safety and comfort. Excellent storage, carpet, headroom and legroom create a cabin that is roomy, comfortable and designed for the operator. As standard Quon comes with a SRS Drivers Airbag and a A-Pillar grab handle making the Quon a more pleasant place to work from. Add other features like 24v power supply, large centre console, triple arm intermittent wipers, electronically operated mirrors, ADR42/04compliant sleeper bunk, heated and cooled storage box, climate controlled air-conditioning, cruise control(on flagship model) and power windows to complete the picture. The Quon GW cabin has been designed for the ultimate in driver comfort and safety, and provides drivers around the world the tools for easier day-to-day operation. The cabin offers a wide field of view, while the solid surrounding provides a sense of security to the driver. This not only allows the driver to focus their concentration on the road, but also reduces fatigue on long-haul journeys. The driver’s seat and associated features have been carefully designed to maximize comfort and security, complete with optional air suspension. The driver’s seat incorporates a tilting slide mechanism that can be adjusted to the optimum driving position, regardless of the driver’s body type. With its large head restraint, the seat has carefully been designed to cradle every part of the driver.
The Quon is powered by the highly fuel efficient GH13 engine, in the ranges of 270-360 kW variations to suit each particular application and market requirement. The high power and torque performance delivered by the GH13 engine, combined with a flat torque curve at peak output, reduces the amount of shifting required by the transmission. Extra Engine Brake (EEB) is available as an option which can automatically shift down through gears for more effective engine braking, resulting in easier driving such as long haul downhill highways. The GH13 engine is designed to deliver smooth driving under any driving situation, such as hilly roads, long haul intercity journeys or any type of rough roads. Oil and fuel filters have been designed to be located around the bottom of the engine, all close together for easier maintenance. The filter capacity has been increased for longer intervals between maintenance and servicing. The entire power train has been designed to be more environmentally-friendly and improve fuel efficiency, at levels that clearly exceed the requirements of Euro3 regulations.
One of the strength of the new Quon range undoubtedly lies with the transmission. The Quon GW models come with a choice of either the manual VO514B 14-speed transmission or the A0261D automated manual transmissions. Only the manual boxes are synchromesh-type and features power shift, whereas the AMTs are non-synchromesh-type with improved PTO capabilities and innovative protection devices. There is also overrun protection on 14-speed gearboxes, as well a planet gear with a range lock function. The new automated manual transmission, offers 2-pedal or clutch less operation through the innovative 12-speed ESCOT V gearshift mechanism.
Assistant seat and bed space
The assistant seat can be used either as a normal reclining seat or in the fully flat position to make up part of the bed, or alternatively in the raised position to provide enough space to change clothes. The bed space now features greater overhead space, a wider area to lie down and a broader back panel.
